Methodology & Formulas

How the market sentiment and sector performance values shown above are calculated.

Market Breadth Ratio
Compares advancing stocks with declining stocks.
Market Breadth Ratio = Advancers / Decliners
If no stocks declined, the number of advancers is used; if both are zero, the result is zero.
Market Breadth Percentage
Unchanged stocks are excluded from active participation.
Market Breadth Percentage = Advancers / (Advancers + Decliners) × 100
Below 40% is Bearish, 40% to 59.99% is Neutral, and 60% or above is Bullish.
Volume Breadth Ratio
Compares trading volume of advancing stocks with declining stocks.
Volume Breadth Ratio = Advancing Volume / Declining Volume
If declining volume is zero, advancing volume is used; if both are zero, the result is zero.
Volume Breadth Percentage
Shows the active market volume contributed by advancing stocks.
Volume Breadth Percentage = Advancing Volume / (Advancing Volume + Declining Volume) × 100
Below 40% is Bearish, 40% to 59.99% is Neutral, and 60% or above is Bullish.
Sector Performance
Calculates the simple average change of all stocks in a sector.
Average Sector Change = Sum of Stock Changes / Total Stocks in the Sector
Non-negative values appear under Advancing Sectors and negative values under Declining Sectors.
Volume Weighted Sector Performance
Gives higher-volume stocks greater influence on sector performance.
Volume Weighted Change = Sum of (Stock Change × Stock Volume) / Total Sector Volume
Non-negative values appear under Advancing Sectors and negative values under Declining Sectors.
